Semester 2 Assignment

My assignment consists of several different sets. The animations were rendered as 10 to 20 second renders, this meant that seperate sets could be made and rendered on different computers which cut rendering times.

The first animation includes more basic effects from the start of the of semester 2.

The second animation has a battle scene which has some additional content found from online tutorials.

The Scene below is the setting for my 3rd scene, The alien king is in his castle when the main character arrives to begin the final battle for the planet.

To create realistic looking hair I used the following link to help me with a few extra effects with movement.

Semester 2 Extras

After finishing my assignment I decided to work a bit on my realistic looking models. The image and video below show the practice with textures and lighting, I was very pleased with the results. All model meshes were very simple which significantly helped render times. It took about an hour to render.

Video tour of the model below. This was edited in windows movie maker.

This was a model I created from the comic series Dragonball Z, I'm hoping to make some animations in the future so this was just good practice. It was built by extruding a plane, I had to use my own judgment to try and get a reasonable proportion. The outcome wasnt too bad.
Then a simple particle effect was added along with a 2d image as a background.

The model below took about 8 hours, this was built by extruding and merging individual vertices to maintain a simple mesh. I then added hair to the arms and chin using a static partical effect.
My first attempt at rigging an eye lid.

The video below shows some eyes I made which are following an object, I did this by using the track to in the constraints tab.

Semester 2 Week 9

I got a bit bored so made myself a Buzz lightyear, The face was a bit rushed, maybe something that will be used in the future though.

Also did a few spiderman character heads.

Semester 2 Week 8

The exploding box tutorial was very useful and easy to follow. The Video of my effort is shown below.

In my assignment this effect will be used for exploding items in the scenery.
The example below shows my first attemp for my assignment piece.

Semester 2 Week 6 and 7

With this fluid effect I set a domain which was the outer cube, set the fluid which was a second cube within the domain, I then used the back feature and it created the effect seen below. Its not exactly the same as the intended effect but I feel I learned enough to get a good water effect in my assignment. Perhaps rain hitting a puddle.

On my second attemp I followed the tutorial from the link below...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiExKTaflxE/
my video is below.

This next effect was something I saw on youtube and really liked so I had a go myself. I was happy with it as a first effort.

Semester 2 Assignment

I now feel I can produce something quite good to go into my assigment now.

The Idea for my first video will be to create a character on a motorbike and travel across terrain to a ship.
The next scene will be a gathering at the ship with alien troops.
The final scene will be the characters travelling into the ship to see the alien leader and will end with the ship flying away.

The video below is an example of a couple of new tutorials I found.

The link below got me started on crating characters.

http://www.linuxgraphic.org/section3d/blender/pages/didacticiels/head-subsurf/index-ang.html

The 2 images below are renders of my first character.

The aim will be to get a cartoon effect for the filming of the first scene. Below are some examples this.

Semester 2 Week 5

This was a very useful exercise, the physics engine means less effort needs to go into moving objects to seperate locations. The image below is a reminder of how collision was set for objects.

The video below is the physics engine in action.

Semester 2 Week 4

This tutorial was farely difficult as one of the buttons wasnt in the new version of blender. After tweeking a few settings such as the Z accel the final effort was not too bad when rendered. In future I would add more planes of different heights and colour to create a more realistic effect.

This was my second attemp at the effect, the fire looks a lot better this time. I used the following settings.

Smester 2 Week 3

After creating the 2 cylinders I set them to rotate by using the 'I' key and selecting ROT at the first scene, then selected the 150th scene and rotated the cylinder the direction i wanted and used the ROT option again. Next I added a Lattice box and set the shape to deform the object. finally i grouped the objects using 'CTRL P' (Lattice deform) and set the LOC for the sphere through the timeline.

I had a second attempt at this once had learned a bit more. This secont try has the camera path, this was quite tricky at points, the tutorial had to be followed very clearly. I used a bezier circle, set the constraint of the camera to follow the bezier cirlce path, then created an empy object and set the camera to track the object.

Semester 2 week 2

the video below is a spaceship exploying space. This effort has some flaws, the movements are way to sudden so in the future there needs to be more frames for each movement. Also the camera needs to be set individually as it doesn't entirely follow my model. To colour the model i used the tutorial from semester one on multiple materials.

Semester 2 week 1

The video below shows the completed video tutorial introducing key frames.

useful shortcuts

'I' to access insert key
'alt A' to play movie in blender
'F10' to access animation toolbar

This next video is an attempt at using the skills from the video above with some more advanced models I created.
